I agree that I don't want to see a fee in GW2, no kind of it. One of the main reasons GW's is so great to begin with is you get a real sense of ownership; you pay for it, you can use it if and when you so please without having to worry about "getting the most of your subscriptions worth" or feeling like you're leasing content.

Also, I don't find the skills overwhelming when they all come at once in an expansion. I welcome the change. Many, many new and interesting skills for me to play around with and decide how they work into my playstyle and how I can incorperate them into my builds. I'd much rather they stuck to their free to play with expansions model than to P2P. In fact, they've already said numerous times GW2 will be free to play, making this thread redundant.

I prefer the campaigns model over expansions. But that's another topic I guess.

Next time I'll be sure to get the title right, because it appears that my original attention for this thread got turned into something that I'm very sure has already been discussed.

If GW2 had a fee, I'd still play it. I just love GW itself too much.

I doubt there will be a monthly fee. However, consider how much it costs to buy all 3 campaigns and GWEN - between $150 and $200. Comparable to about a year and a half of a monthly fee ($13/month). It's not that much cheaper.

I would only get GW2 if it becomes the next Starcraft-like craze in korea, i'm more into gvg/vs competition with $200,000 tourneys and stuff anyway.

GW1 had it going on until nf came out. SAD to see what could have become something awesome just be killed off like that :'(

edit: I know they have monthly $100,000 tourney's now but, I hear all they give the winners are bags of crap worth up to $100,000 and not actual cash. So there is no incentive to form a pro team anymore. (I think that's why EviL and WM moved on)

Some people dont go to that extent, but i try to tell people your still paying a good amount a month basically. I added 10 character slots as well and the bonus weekend. No matter people wont see total cost compared to a monthly cost because they are two seperate things. I believe people just dont like the idea of a subscription. But in all i would pay for a monthly subscription if the game was worth it. Higher entertainment = more money value.

My 4th account was free!

My 3rd account has all three campaigns and is about 6 months old - $120 online.

My 2nd account that i play now is 12 months old and i spent about $300 on it.

My 1st account i got 2 weeks after release of Proph. It has about $300 dollars spent on it as well.

Dont worry - Two of those accounts are now in the hands of my girlfriend. So i am roughly paying about $22-$25 a month. Of course most people just have one account, 3 campaigns, expansion and maybe 2-4 extra character slots. I used to have a Guild Leader whom had around 20 accounts OMG!

I would pay for it. GW is worth the fee anyways, all the upgrades I've already paid for... char slots, skill unlocks, campaigns, all kinds of stuff in the in-game store would equal a $5-$10 monthly fee for the last 2 years I've played.

That would mean that if I was playing other games, but had a fun idea to try a build I'd have to pay XX.xx dollars just to see if it worked.
I do that now. I don't normally play GW anymore, unless I happen to think of a build and want to experiment with it, or see what a special event is like.
Is it worth paying XX.xx dollars just to see something for an hour?

I've lost just about all faith in ANet. But I'd probably buy it anyway. Z_Z

Although most subscription games that I know of also require you to buy the game for a starting price similar to that of a GW campaign, and the same goes with their expansion packs.
People rarely seem to consider this.

It might also be worth pointing out that if you stop paying a monthly fee you stop playing fullstop. With GW you can continue to play on your 1/2 campaigns for the forseeable future, you don't have to keep buying new campaigns/expansions in order to keep playing.

Moot point. Jeff Strain and others stated over and over they are sticking to the one-time purchase. Their argument was that it allows you to stop and pick up the game at your leisure, and doesn't put them in as much direct competition with other games.

Think about it. You pay $50 and you're done. You can still play WoW or any other game and not worry about re-subscribing to the monthly fee for GW. That casual treatment is what makes GW unique among the games.

As far as more money equaling a better game...it sure as hell didn't help the WoW artwork, did it? He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, anyone? Tried it once, and every time my warrior lifted his sword I waited for him to say, "I have the power!"

Oh, and the argument of the over-time cost being similar...if you are playing from Jan 2006 to Dec 2007 with a $13 subscription, 24X13=$314. With elite tomes and unlocking skills, you can just stay with one campaign and maybe EotN and still have access to all skills and all the decent PvP you want. That drops cost to $90. If they release GW2 at $60, considering the map size and depth of story they've relayed so far, it will still be a bargain.

if it's $5 a month, i don't have a problem...really. provided :

1. account creation is free (well, may be $5).
2. your account and all your item inventory stays there when you're not within a subscription, for a grace period let's say 6 month after which your account will be deleted if you don't renew subscription.
3. anet resolve the lag issue once and for all.

$5 x 12 = $60... almost equivalent to 2 campaign a year .

We'd kinda hope that there Would be. Human nature tends to try for success first, failure being a last resort.

That wins the thread.

I don't care about the money. I bought GW in April 05, played Prophecies till August 08, finished everything there was to be done, got FoW armor and all that, had FUN, then took a break. I came back in April 06 to play factions, back in Nov 06 to play Nightfall and now I'm coming back in Jan 08 to play GWEN.

In this scenario, I'm happy because I had fun playing. ANET is happy because I bought everything they had to offer. If the model changed to a subscription, they'd want you to keep playing rather than create enjoyable, but less content.

Imagine if all the title grinds were NECESSARY to progress in the game. That kind of stuff.

I do think a fee would boost the production values used by Anet which would mean more frequent game updates, and higher quality content updates.

I'd pay if GW2 deserved the 15 a month.
